Get Ready for Maker Con 2017

Get ready for Maker Con on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at the Main Library! This exciting new festival has three components: presentations by local experts, a cosplay contest and a marketplace. If you’re a maker, we want you to join us in our marketplace!  The Maker Con is new this year, but we’re pretty excited about our programs!

State Aid to Public Libraries Approved at $21.3 Million

ilovejpl blog post imageGreat news for Florida's libraries: The Florida House and Senate budget chairs agreed to fund State Aid to Public Libraries at $21.3 million, a slight increase over last year. The Jacksonville Public Library depends on State Aid to fund some of what the City General Revenue Fund does not cover. In addition, federal funds we rely on for literacy programs are contingent upon the State Aid appropriation.

National Library Week Video Contest

During their recent stop in Jacksonville, the cast of the touring musical "Jersey Boys" stopped by the library to show us some love. Share your library love by creating your own short video in support of the Jacksonville Public Library. All entries will be featured on our official YouTube channel and the top three winners will have their videos featured on our website.

Bookstore at Main closes, but book sales continue!

The Friends of the Library bookstore at the Main Library has closed; however, the Friends will continue to operate a bookstore.

University Park Branch Library (3435 University Blvd. N.)

Open 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday.

The Friends will continue to have four Book Warehouse Sales every year at the University Park location. These book sales are a great way to help support the library while getting incredible deals!

Mandela delegation tours Main Library

When representatives of the Mandela delegation came to Jacksonville, the Sister City of Mandela Bay Municipality, South Africa, to celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela at an event planned by the City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association, the guests were also treated to a tour of a Mandela exhibit in the Special Collections department at the Main Library.
