Early Learners

Calling all parents, grandparents, and caregivers to little learners—we're not your average storytime!

At the Jacksonville Public Library, we're focused on appealing to early learners at every age. We'll explore science, art and more during our activities for babies, toddlers and young children.

Storytime for Babies (ages birth to walking)

Babies Read, Play and Learn — A short lap-sit storytime for children from birth to walking. This program includes rhymes, songs, movement activities, and books to promote language development and positive interactions between parent and child.

Storytime for Toddlers (ages walking to 36 months)

Toddlers Read, Play and Learn  A short storytime for children walking to 36 months with an adult caregiver. The program includes stories, books, movement activities, nursery rhymes, and music to promote vocabulary building and comprehension.

Story Time for All Children (ages five and below)

Young Children Read, Play and Learn — This storytime includes books, movement activities, nursery rhymes, and music to promote vocabulary building and comprehension.

Story Art — This storytime includes songs, stories, and explorations that promote basic art skills while incorporating pre-literacy skills for reading and writing.

Little Movers and Shakers  Get ready to move! This storytime includes songs, stories, and instruments that promote basic musical concepts and terminology while incorporating pre-literacy skills for reading and writing.

Little Scientists Every child is a little scientist exploring the world for the first time. In addition to books, finger plays, nursery rhymes and songs that promote language development, vocabulary building and comprehension, this storytime includes science stations. We'll further explore story time themes plus concepts such as observation, comparison, and exploration of the five senses.

Little Artists — Calling all creators! In addition to books, finger plays, nursery rhymes and songs that promote language development, vocabulary building and comprehension, this storytime includes interactive art stations. We'll further explore story time themes plus concepts such as cause/effect, creative interpretation and expression, and experimenting with different art mediums and tools to achieve a desired effect.

Program attendance may be limited to ensure program quality. Every program at the Jacksonville Public Library is free and open to the public.
