Jacksonville Public Library's recent study of the importance of literacy in Jacksonville found 94% of Duval County residents believe literacy (reading, writing, and comprehension of the written word) is profoundly important to the community.

"Reading is the cornerstone of a community's success. Yet many struggle to find the inspiration and motivation to keep reading in their and their family's lives," says Tim Rogers, Jacksonville's Chief Librarian and Library Director. "We want all Jaxsons to celebrate reading and find their own passion for it, so we asked some of the city's most passionate readers to share their stories."

Therefore, during 2024's Celebrate Reading Week, Jacksonville Public Library, READ JAX, and the Library Foundation of Jacksonville are launching a new video series—Passion for Reading. The Library enlisted enthusiastic community leaders including Action News Jax anchor Tenikka Hughes, Nemours Children's Health President and CEO, Dr. Lawrence Moss, Leadership Jax CEO (retired), Jill Dame, and founder of P.S. Never Give Up Hope, Renata Hannans, and retained local video production company Kennetic Productions to bring these stories to life.

A compilation of the series is available to watch now on the Library's YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/jaxlibrary) and social media channels. Stay tuned over the next several months to view the full videos by each of the four individual subjects, and to hear more about future Passion for Reading videos.
