It’s hard to imagine a world without the soul-stirring poems of Maya Angelou, the comic verse of Ogden Nash, or the influential works of Walt Whitman, the father of free verse. Now during National Poetry Month, you can kick up your own poetry appreciation—and enjoyment—with poetry programs and more.
Who says good hardbacks are too expensive to buy? Shop the Warehouse Book Sale for an affordable way to add to your personal library or to pick up a nice gift book. The Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library Bookstore is located at the University Park Branch Library. You can shop cheap, used books during these open hours:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon, and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Jacksonville Public Library’s (JPL) Main branch is an extraordinary building – a crown jewel of downtown. Walk through the front doors on Laura Street and be wowed by the expanse of the building, its elegance and charm. Nestled on the fourth floor of the building is another gem, the Morris Ansbacher Map Room which houses an extensive collection of maps known as the Lewis Ansbacher Map Collection. The Ansbacher family has generously donated this collection of maps to the library to make them available to the community.
Our new Jacksonville Public Library App has arrived and we’re pretty excited to share it with you. The app takes ease of access to our materials and pushes it to the max. Find it in the Apple Store and the Google Play Store and start getting all the materials you love all in one place.
Hello, I wanted to share a short message of introduction to let you know how excited I am to be joining the Jacksonville Public Library team. As you can imagine, my wife Carla and I have been pretty busy over the past month celebrating the holidays with family and prepping for our new life in North Florida. We found a place to live on the Southside, got our Florida driver’s licenses and car tags, and most importantly, went to our new home branch, Southeast Regional, to register for library cards. We are officially Jaxsons (or Jacksonvillians, if you prefer)!
It’s 2019 and everyone wants instant access to materials at any hour! We get it—we do too! To accommodate the need for instant information and entertainment, JPL has awesome online resources that everyone in our community should be taking advantage of.
This Giving Tuesday, support your library! The Jacksonville Public Library Foundation invites you to give to your public library system. Help us continue to provide books, children’s programming, adult education, and more.
The stage has been set, the gauntlet thrown and we want to see you rise to the occasion! It's summertime and our theme is Build a Better World. We have a lot of programs at your local library for kids and adults to celebrate the summer, but we have a special challenge for you, a Kindness Challenge.
We’re always telling you just how much we appreciate you. We value your support, as customers, as readers, as general supporters for the library. Recently we got a little love back when Rita Offindani sent us some mementos all the way from Tenerife which is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands! The box was filled with art. Each piece was so dynamic but don't just take our word for it, see for yourself!
