Library Staff and Guests to Celebrate 27 Years of Calendar’s Publication
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 14, 2016 – Jacksonville Public Library staff and honored guests will gather for the library’s unveiling of the 2016 Jacksonville Black History Calendar which continues to be a vital resource documenting the achievements and events in the annals of Jacksonville’s African-American community. This is the 27th annual unveiling and the ninth to be held at the library.

Competitions and Activities Will Engage Students “For the Love of Braille”
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 25, 2016 – The Jacksonville Public Library is pleased to host the North Florida Regional Braille Challenge for a second consecutive year. Schools in Duval, St. Johns and Clay counties will send more than 50 kindergarten through high school students to compete. The Main Library is one of four regional Florida hosts for the 2016 competition, which is themed “For the Love of Braille.”

Winner Will Advance to Scripps National Spelling Bee
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 24, 2016 – The champions of 14 county spelling bees throughout northeast Florida will vie for the honor of regional champion during The Florida TimesUnion Regional Spelling Bee Championship. The regional champion will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the nation’s largest and longestrunning education program, held in May near Washington, D.C.

Sharon Coon Recognized at Mayor's 2016 Women's History Month Event
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 31, 2016 – Sharon Coon, founder of the Friends of the Brentwood Branch Library, was recognized at the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women reception, held at the Main Library on March 30. The MCSW was established in 1972 to serve as a catalyst for moving women forward, and to recognize and acknowledge the accomplishments of outstanding women of Jacksonville.
