The Jacksonville Public Library Makerspace is a place for making things, from movies to music, art to apps, robots to radios, novels to needlepoint. Whether you are a novice or an expert, a student, hobbyist, inventor, entrepreneur, or artist, it’s a place for anyone interested in hands-on opportunities to explore, collaborate and create.

The Jax Makerspace Gallery in the Main Library is hosting a new Exhibit called Writing on the Walls: Visual Literacy through Street Art Culture Feb. 14 – April 14. We are also the host of internationally known and anonymous street artist Banksy’s Haight Street Rat.. This was in collaboration with The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and with the generous support of VyStar Credit Union.
Lanterns and lighthouses have illuminated the way for centuries. Join us to learn about the history of lighthouses in Florida. Create a lighthouse-themed lantern you can use for the inaugural Jacksonville Lantern Parade on April 7, 2018.
Have you always wanted to learn to play the guitar, but can’t find the time? Come by the Jax Makerspace on your lunch break! Learn basic guitar technique, chords, songs, and more. Use one of our guitars, or bring your own! Guitar ownership not mandatory, but highly recommended for practicing.

Come try one of the Jax Makerspace’s ukuleles! Ukuleles are an great instrument for beginners. An instructor will be present to teach basic notes, chords, and other beginner ukulele knowledge. Learn to reserve and use a ukulele at the Main Library! Three ukuleles and tuners will be provided for student use.
This class is an introduction to selling goods and services online via Ebay, Craigslist, Etsy, and Amazon Marketplace. Learn what skills are needed to sell online, how to create and manage accounts on these sites, and how to stay safe and avoid scams. If you're new to using a sewing machine or need a refresher, join us in the Jax Makerspace for this basic machine skills class. In this guided class, the instructor will review basic machine skills, including threading a needle, loading a bobbin, and stitching seams.
Class begins promptly at 11:30 AM. Please register to reserve your spot. Drop-ins are welcome and will be seated on a first come, first served basis.
Python is a fairly simple, common programming language that can be used in a wide variety of ways. In this class we will learn the basics of this excellent language and learn how to begin coding in Python using free resources. While we welcome participants from different background and skill levels, we recommend you have good keyboard and mouse skills to get the most out of this class.
