The Jacksonville Public Library Makerspace is a place for making things, from movies to music, art to apps, robots to radios, novels to needlepoint. Whether you are a novice or an expert, a student, hobbyist, inventor, entrepreneur, or artist, it’s a place for anyone interested in hands-on opportunities to explore, collaborate and create.

The Jax Makerspace Gallery in the Main Library is hosting a new Exhibit called Living History: A Cultural Mosaic, Nov.1, 2017 – Jan. 28, 2018.
Living History: A Cultural Mosaic features artists from diverse cultural backgrounds who express their stories through mixed media art forms. The art represents their stories of migration to and finding refuge in Jacksonville, and the cultures and traditions they carried with them. The artists explore how these cultural differences define each of them, and bring them together to the place they now call home.
Come try one of the Jax Makerspace’s ukuleles! Ukuleles are an great instrument for beginners. An instructor will be present to teach basic notes, chords, and other beginner ukulele knowledge. Learn to reserve and use a ukulele at the Main Library! Three ukuleles and tuners will be provided for student use.
In this class we will begin discussing CSS style sheets and how they can improve HTML Web page design and functionality. Users will understand the differences between CSS and HTML and, with practice, be able to implement both on websites.
Have you always wanted to learn to play the guitar, but can’t find the time? Come by the Jax Makerspace on your lunch break! Learn basic guitar technique, chords, songs, and more. Use one of our guitars, or bring your own! Guitar ownership not mandatory, but highly recommended for practicing.

Join us in the Jax Makerspace for an instructional class on painting with acrylics. With guided instruction, participants will learn tips and techniques for working with acrylic paint. All supplies are provided but seats are limited, so pre-registration is suggested.
This class will take you through the basics of digital photography and camera fundamentals. Boost your photography skills by taking some of the mystery out of using DSLR cameras. We will introduce you to the basics of digital camera functions including automatic and manual settings. This class is for the novice or entry level photographer who wants to gain better knowledge of digital cameras as a tool.
Presented by SELAH (Studio of Evangelistic Living Arts in Harmony), join us in the Jax Makerspace for a demonstration and tutorial of multi-genre Christian-centered dances, to include an array of global musical influences from traditional Biblical, African, Hawaiian, to Latin, Contemporary and beyond.
