What makes a good library great? Without question, it is the support the library receives from private citizens who understand and value the essential role a library plays in the life of the community.

A Big, Big Thank You For All That You Do…

Wendy Warner, a longtime Friend of the Beaches Branch Library and the 2017 Jacksonville Public Library Volunteer of the Year, can often be found in costume at the Beaches Branch Library. Whether it’s the Cat in the Hat event, a Harry Potter program or Comic Con, Wendy is sure to show up dressed for the occasion.

Get Ready for Maker Con 2017

Get ready for Maker Con on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at the Main Library! This exciting new festival has three components: presentations by local experts, a cosplay contest and a marketplace. If you’re a maker, we want you to join us in our marketplace!  The Maker Con is new this year, but we’re pretty excited about our programs!

Oh the places you'll go...in an hour?!

There are plenty of exciting reasons to visit the Main Library downtown, but we know that finding parking can sometimes be a problem - especially with kids. We’ve got your back.  While the library is always free, Monday through Friday you can also get one hour of free parking in the Duval St. Parking Garage when you visit Main.

July Staff Picks

Each month we feature a series of books chosen by our fabulous staff. Once a week our literary mavens will be featured on our social media channels. At the end of every month we compile them for you right here; that way you won’t miss a single book! These choices are some of their favorite books and authors or reads they need to share with others.

#JaxBookFace

Last year we started a #JaxBookFace contest, and it's been a lot of fun to see some of your creative entries! We're pretty much in love with your book faces so keep them coming. You could be our next winner!

The Brinkman Legacy: Championing Adult Literacy

The library’s Center for Adult Learning wouldn’t be what it is today—a place where adults can learn to read, learn English as a second language, prepare for GED classes and testing—without the vision, innovation and passion of Jean Ulmer Brinkman. Jean, the founder of CAL and Learn to Read, which are located at the library, had a big dream—to give every adult the opportunity and right tools to learn to read.
