A Tale of My Cameras

Polaroid cameras on display in Jax Makerspace Gallery

Jacksonville: A Tale of My City, a new exhibit at the Main Library, explores Jacksonville’s past and present through the lenses of over a dozen local photographers. In addition to the images on the library’s walls, the exhibit shines a spotlight on the evolution of cameras. Featured photographer Cheryl McCain has generously loaned her expansive vintage camera collection to the Jax Makerspace Gallery for display during the exhibit’s run.

Back to the Past

Jacksonville Neighborhood Photo Project logo

Jacksonville, the largest city in Florida, is a jewel of the Sunshine State that has changed so much over the years. Founded in 1791, it is important for Jacksonville to have an abundance of photographs to archive the city’s rich history. By viewing old photos of Jacksonville, people can learn about the history of the city and how much it has changed from its founding to the present. That’s where the Jacksonville Neighborhood Photo Project comes in.

Teen Zine is a series of workshops made to encourage teens to get creative, to collaborate, share ideas, and have their voices heard. The series was hosted on Saturdays in the Teen Department of the Main Library from May 5th to June 16th. The workshops allowed teens to congregate, talk to artists and zine writers, and work together to make their very own zine.
