The Jacksonville Public Library and WJCT launched the First Coast Connect Book Club for library and literature lovers. WJCT's First Coast Connect book blogger Stacey Goldring discusses engaging books and invites you to join in the conversation, discuss your opinions, and add ideas to the literary discussion.

Each month a specific book or a selection of books will be chosen to be discussed. Check out the book(s) at any Jacksonville Public Library, or purchase the books at The Book Nook or Chamblin’s. Mention you’re with the First Coast Connect Book Club and get a discount.

After you've read the book tell us what you think at firstcoastconnect@wjct.org. Share any questions, emotions, memories or ideas that your reading triggered. At the end of the month, Stacey and host Melissa Ross will discuss the book(s) and share your comments on First Coast Connect.

Applying a literary lens in which to see our world, you can join in on the discussion on July 21 at 9:30 a.m. during NPR 89.9 FM's First Coast Connect Book Club. Call in during the show (904) 549-2937 or send your questions or comments to bookclub@wjct.org or tweet @ChapterEndnotes.

July’s Book Selection
Classics are classic for a reason.

In July we’ll discuss Harper Lee’s iconic To Kill a Mockingbird. This title was at first selected as an interesti

ng nod to the upcoming literary controversial release of Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman. It is also a fitting selection for our city’s July 16 Banned Book Club inaugural discussion.

Unfortunately, as we see and hear on the news, To Kill a Mockingbird’s story and themes are sadly timeless. The recent horrific murders in Charleston highlight the pain of racism that To Kill a Mockingbird so eloquently brings to the page.

"I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks." - Chapter 23, To Kill a Mockingbird

First Coast Connect airs every weekday at 9 a.m. on 89.9 WJCT-FM.
