Using history to promote conversations that impact the way we live today.
The Perspective is a book group that seeks to connect the events of history to today. This is a reading group for persons interested in understanding how the society we live in has been shaped, and how lessons learned from the past can guide us in shaping a better future.
Our first book will be It Was Never About a Hot Dog and a Coke!; this is local author and civil rights activist Rodney Hurst's personal account of the 1960 sit-in demonstrations in Jacksonville, Florida and Axe Handle Saturday. Reading the book prior to the meetups is not necessary, as we will be reading through it together followed by a group discussion. All are welcome.
