Learn about social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more). Get information on finances and legal issues. Continue learning about health and culture. Check out live music performances and more - just for you!

Learn more about issues affecting older adults from our friends at AARP Jacksonville, Alzheimer’s Association, City of Jacksonville – Senior Services, Community Hospice, ElderSource, and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.

Report Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation 24/7 at 1-800-96-ABUSE (1-800-962-2873).

All library programs are free and open to the public.

Making Chief Osceola: The abololitionist and the Rise of an American Myth

This talk explores how Osceola became a national phenomenon after his death in the nineteenth century. It includes an overview of the war as well as a discussion of Osceola’s place in the Second Seminole War. The talk then turns to a discussion of the debates that occurred in the United States over Indian wars, Indian removal, and their connections to American slavery. In this context, we learn about how Osceola has been remembered and misremembered since his capture and death.
