Ukulele Lessons

Come try a ukulele in the Jax Makerspace! Ukuleles are a great instrument for beginners. An instructor will be present to teach basic notes, chords, and other beginner ukulele knowledge. Learn to reserve and use a ukulele at the Main Library! Three ukuleles and tuners will be provided for student use.

Sewing Machine Skills: Make a Pillowcase!

Join us in the Jax Makerspace to develop your sewing machine skills! With guided instruction, you will use the Makerspace's sewing machines to create a pillowcase. We recommend that you complete Introduction to Sewing Machines before taking this class. Participants will take a completed pillowcase home.

All materials provided but space is limited, so registration is required.

Learn the basics of creating and manipulating 3D objects using simple and free 3D design software. Also learn best practices for designing objects that are 3D printer friendly.

Registration is not required, but group lessons are on a first come, first serve basis.

Digital Photography Portraits

Learn some tips and tricks for taking better photographs of people. In this class, we will cover some lighting techniques, and tips for posing individual people and groups. All skill levels are welcome.

Saturday Scratch

Learn the basics of video game design and block-based programming using Scratch! Geared for ages 10+, these programs will introduce Scratch by building different games.

For those who have been to the other Saturday Scratch classes, these will be new games that we haven't made before, so come on out and join us!

Saturday, July 14 - Introductory level game.
Saturday, July 28 - Slightly more advanced game. We are going to reinforce what we learned from the class on July 14 and learn some additional techniques.

Interested in Zines? Haven't heard of them? Join us for an overview and history of zines. We'll discuss common themes, different publishing methods, and even create a short zine. The Jax Makerspace Zine Collection is the largest public Zine collection in the Southeastern United States. We will explore the collection and highlight local zine authors.

Women Writing for (a) Change, Jacksonville

Women Writing for (a) Change, Jacksonville, is offering a new, one-hour writing circle in the Jax Makerspace on the Fourth Friday of every month. All are welcome, at no charge.

Women Writing for (a) Change, Jacksonville, is a new writing community for Jacksonville writers. Their mission is to nurture and celebrate the individual voice by facilitating supportive writing circles and by encouraging people to craft more conscious lives through the art of writing and the practices of community.
