Facilities Assistant Director and New Collection Development Manager Positions Filled
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 30, 2016 – The Jacksonville Public Library is proud to announce the promotions of two outstanding library employees. Aubrey Winship Shah was promoted to an appointed position of assistant director of facilities in July; and Charlene Adkins will assume the role of a newly appointed position of collection development manager on Oct. 1, coinciding with the library’s 2016/17 fiscal year.
Aubrey Winship Shah, Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Planning
Aubrey Winship Shah, who has served as the library facilities manager for the past two years, has been promoted and appointed to assistant director of facilities management and planning. Shah holds a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from Georgia Institute of Technology and her previous work experience includes four years as a project manager at W.W. Gay Fire and Integrated Systems. Shah will oversee the physical infrastructure, maintenance, and capital improvements for the 21 Jacksonville Public Library buildings across the metropolitan area.
Shah said she is proud to be the assistant director of facilities, and loves working in the library where she can combine her passion for books and for beautiful buildings. She is a graduate of Episcopal High School of Jacksonville, and enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with her husband and pets.
Shah will report to Library Director Barbara A. B. Gubbin.
Charlene Adkins, Collection Development Manager
Charlene Adkins, who most recently served as the supervisor of collection development and acquisitions for 17 years at the library, has been appointed to the position of collection development manager—a new position for the Jacksonville Public Library. Adkins has served in various capacities at the library for 27 years, overseeing the Lead Collection Development and Acquisitions departments, and supervising staff members. To her long list of accomplishments, Adkins served as project management leader for the $15 million Better Jacksonville Plan opening day collections for seven library locations 2001 – 2006. In her new expanded role, Adkins will continue overseeing the collection and acquisitions, and also will manage cataloging and digitization.
Adkins received a Master of Library Science from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications from Jacksonville University. When she’s not busy at the library, Adkins volunteers at Mandarin High School where she serves on the School Advisory Committee, Band Boosters Board, and as the band’s webmaster.
Adkins will report to Assistant Director for Support Services Gretchen Mitchell.
Library Director Barbara Gubbin said, “I am proud of both of these staff members and the many contributions they have made to our library system. I look forward to working with them in their new positions.”
