Rally Jacksonville! Backpacks @ Booktique

Mayor Peyton’s Book Club book sets and backpacks are now available for a donation to the “Fran Peacock Coker/RALLY Jacksonville! Fund” at the Friends of the Public Library Booktique store in the Main Library, located at 303 N. Laura St.

The book sets feature 11 titles including: “I Can Read!,” “We’re Looking for the Alphabet!,” “We’re Going to the Timucuan Preserve!,” “We Love the Library!,” “We Say ‘Go Jaguars!’,” “I am Sam Snowflake!,” “We’re Going to the Jacksonville Museums!,” “We Love Our River!,” “We’re Going to the Jacksonville Zoo!,” “We’re Going to the Beach!,” and “We say, ‘Thank You City Helpers!.”  

The backpacks are filled with learning tools including: a puppet, crayons, reading blanket, bookmark, door hanger, cup, T-shirt, flashcards, stickers and a pencil.  

Book sets are available for a $20 donation, backpacks $20 or both for $30.   Friends of the Public Library members may obtain the books or the backpacks for a $16 donation each, or both for $24.  

Tragically, Mrs. Coker, a Jacksonville educator and author of the Book Club series, died in a fire at her vacation home in Nova Scotia in January 2006.   She had been involved with the literacy initiative almost from its inception.

The books and backpacks are remaining items from the first year of Mayor Peyton’s Book Club (September 2004-July 2005).  

All items must be paid for by check only.   Donors are asked to make checks out to The Community Foundation.
