- History
- Opened November 12, 2005 as the final library project in the Better Jacksonville Plan. The Main Library is over 300,000 sq. ft in size and is the largest public library in the state.
It replaces the old Haydon Burns Main Library (November 1965 - September 2005) and the Jacksonville Free Public Library (June 1901 - November 1965).

Services and Programs
- The library collection includes books, audiobooks on tape and CD, videos and DVDs, and recorded music on tape and CD.
- A floor dedicated to Special Collections such as the new Morris Ansbacher Map Collection and the African-American Collection.
- It houses the Center for Adult Learning headquarters and classrooms, as well as the Talking Books Library.
- A spacious teen room, the Popular Library, and a beautiful Children's Area
- Other areas include an electronic classroom, an auditorium and a multipurpose room, a conference center, an open-air courtyard and a bookstore operated by the Friends of the Library. Shelby's Café opened in 2007.
- Self-service checkout machines near the circulation desk.
- Hundreds of public computers offering Internet access, word processing and online reference resources including the Library catalog.
- Wireless Internet access for laptops, notebooks, and PDA devices.
- There are several works of art.
- Storytime programs for children of different age groups are held weekly.
- Various programs and displays for adults, teens and children are offered throughout the year.
