Winner Will Advance to Scripps National Spelling Bee
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 24, 2016 – The champions of 14 county spelling bees throughout northeast Florida will vie for the honor of regional champion during The Florida TimesUnion Regional Spelling Bee Championship. The regional champion will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the nation’s largest and longestrunning education program, held in May near Washington, D.C.

Jacksonville Public Library Director, Barbara Gubbin, will give opening remarks. Following introductions by The Florida TimesUnion Editor Frank Denton, Staff Writer Dan Scanlan will give the rules and instructions to the participants and will serve as pronouncer. The judges are also from The Florida TimesUnion: Investigative Editor Topher Sanders; Metro Editor Joe Fenton; and Investigative Editor Eileen Kelley.
This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
